This site has been set up by a member of staff at Soton University (

Nic Monks) who was sorry to see the old SUSSED classified service go. I valued this service and felt it was an important part of the University community - hence my setting up Soton Classifieds. Please be aware that I manage this site in my spare time and am I won't be able to provide any support whilst at work.
I'm having problems getting things working. What should I do?
A few users have reported some teething problems - feel free to
get in touch if you think I should know about any glitches. Users who have had problems with Internet Explorer have found that Firefox has worked for them and users who have had problems in Firefox have found that Internet Explorer works for them.... go figure...
You need to enable cookies in your browser to allow the login process to work.
Either turn on cookies or have a go with a different browser and see if that sorts things.
Do I have to register to post an ad?
Yes, you need to register to post an ad on Soton Classifieds. You will need to use your soton.ac.uk address to register. I believe I've even got the site to work for @soton.ac.uk, @noc.soton.ac.uk, @ecs.soton.ac.uk etc addresses. Make sure you type in your full email address when registering.
Do I have to pay to post an ad?
It's free to post an ad. This includes both posting an ad and replying to an ad. You will not be charged if your item sells through a posting on Soton Classifieds. If you want to send me a thank-you present that's entirely up to you!
How do I post an ad?
Posting is easy. Simply follow the instructions below:
1/ Click "Post Ad" at the top of all Soton Classifieds pages.
2/ You will be prompted to log in or register if you haven't already.
3/ Choose the right category for your ad.
4/ Enter a title, price (if applicable), and description. You have the option of uploading up to 2 photos.
What are the posting rules?
1/ No duplicate ads
We only allow one ad for a particular item/ job/ flat etc per day. Please do not post the same ad more than once on a particular day either in the same category or across multiple categories. Please report any duplicate ads you find.
2/ Post in the correct category
Please post in the correct category as it helps both posters in reaching the right audience with their ad and helps the users looking for something to find what they want.
3/ No links to other classified/ property/ dating/ job websites
Please do not put a link in your posting to an ad on another website.
Soton Classifieds reserves the right to remove any postings that we feel are not relevant, or of value to the Soton Classifieds community, with or without notice. We've put some more information in the
Acceptable behaviour section. As users of the service, please report any ads you feel are inappropriate.
How can I include images / videos in my ad?
1/ Images
When you are on the "Post Ad" or Edit Ad" page, click the "Browse..." button which appears under the Images heading. Select a picture file from your computer's hard disk and click "OK". The picture will then be uploaded and attached to your Ad. You can add up two pictures using the same process. Remember a picture is worth a thousand words !
2/ Videos
I've not yet implemented the YouTube embedding bit. It may well turn up in due course.
How can I edit, repost or delete my ad from the site?
Log in and go into "my ads". From here you can edit or delete your ad.
How long do ads last on the site?
Ads are automatically removed from the site 21 days after being posted. (or they will be soon anyway...). You are, of course, more than welcome to resubmit the ad.

Report it to us so that we can take down the ad and ban the user if appropriate. If you have been a victim of a scam we also encourage you to report it to the Police.
What should I do if I see an ad that I think is spam, offensive, miscategorized or illegal?
If you see an ad which you think is illegal, prohibited or otherwise a bad fit for the Soton Classifieds, please report it by clicking one of the "Reporting this ad" links.
I'm tempted to hold Soton Classifieds responsible for something that's gone wrong.
Soton Classifieds is not responsible for the accuracy or content of any ads posted. I'm merely putting in place a venue for you to post/find ads that you might find useful. The transactions you enter into are purely between you and the purchaser/seller.
